I have recognized a severe lack of drug/alcohol treatment facilities for our addicted population - this is part of our problem.
We have done a great job at giving people shelter - but once they are in the shelter, the supports seem to end there.
All we have done is housed the addicted and have done very little to help them with their challenges
(also called wraparound services)
TWO NOTICE OF MOTIONS TO STUDY A WELLNESS FACILITY DENIED BY CURRENT CITY COUNCIL:
I have been one of the strongest advocates of the need for a community operated wellness facility located within or near the City of Kamloops - a place away from the negative influences of the streets - a place of peace, serenity and healing.
With the help of councilor Denis Walsh, two motions were to simply study the options available was brought forth to City Council by Denis Walsh, and both times was rejected by our current city council.
I feel this is a crucial piece of the puzzle to restoring safety and prosperity back to our community.

SHELTER OPERATORS & BC HOUSING NEED TO BE HELD TO RESPECT OUR COMMUNITY
I worked with my lawyer (at my own expense) to try and push the City of Kamloops to support efforts of a completely independent review of BC Housing and operations of the current shelter operators within our community to ensure that they are being staffed appropriately for the services they provide, that they actually provide the servies they say they provide and that there is success coming from their facilities.
I feel that without a 3rd party review - there is no one holding them to be responsible operators within our community which has been painfully obvious for the past for 4 years.
Why does it take a member of the public and business community this much effort to try and get our elected officials to help them? I know I am not alone and many businesses in the affected areas and the entire city can relate to my frustrations.
