OUR GOALS

Is Kamloops better off now than it was 4 years ago?
I plan to change that to a YES over the NEXT 4 years.
 Here's some of my goals.

Our focus for the next 4 years

Goals
#1 Safety – Our absolute top priority is to invest our energy into community safety
  • Prioritize improving community safety – make this our #1 goal
  • We will identify and work with the tools that we have in our municipal control including a complete review of our current CSO (Community Service Office - previously the Bylaw Office) program to ensure they have everything the need to increase community safety including management support and additional training.
  • Work with our community partners including BC Housing to reduce pro-drug/harm reduction sites and increase rehabilitation and recovery facilities with wrap-around services. As mayor I want to move from a revolving door model to a rehab and recovery model. Let’s get people better!
  • Identify social housing and support facilities that are not being operated with our community and neighborhoods well-beings in mind. We need to look at the impact on all stakeholders when choosing social housing. We would create a standard level of service that each operator must always uphold with clear goals around wellness and recovery. I would relocate some rehabilitation areas into more suited areas in Kamloops for allowing people to recover. By spending more money on people and services, and less money on real estate, we can better help the most vulnerable.
  • Work towards supporting more affordable and attainable housing by working closely with the Canadian Homebuilders Association Central Interior. By providing low-income housing for seniors we can help people on a fixed-income live through retirement.
  • We will make physically cleaning up our streets through additional funding for street cleaning and maintenance services. We want to get Kamloops back to its’ slogan of "MAKING KAMLOOPS SHINE.”
#2 Accountability & Transparency – Hold government officials accountable
  • Hold governing bodies accountable for the actions and their spending of public funds.
  • Increase transparency and oversight of taxpayer’s dollars.
  • Capitalize on all grant and incentive money available and make the management looking after it accountable so millions of dollars of available money does not go unclaimed.
  • Increase government to citizen communication

#3 Prosperity - Make a Kamloops we can all be proud of again
  • We believe that a safe community, will naturally become a proud and prosperous community.
  • Establishing an OPEN FOR BUSINESS AGAIN attitude by providing opportunities for entrepreneurs to grow and succeed in their own community. Allow people to feel safe day and night walking the streets of Kamloops.
  • Create a thriving city for all areas where businesses can flourish without the constant fear of vandalism and theft
  • Advocate and lobby for top class educational facilities that rival those across our province. Our young people deserve better facilities for the future of education.
  • Add an additional ice rink in within our city.
  • Work to provide incentives to expand hotel/motel services and encourage a higher quality product so we can better capitalize on being the Tournament Capital of Canada.
  • Create blue-collar solutions for a blue-collar town and think of bring all community stakeholders together when working on community issues.
  • We will work with stakeholders in making Kamloops cycling infrastructure and paths more connected and safer as we believe an active & connected community promotes a healthy population.
  • Our roads are in dire need of better repair. Review & identify better techniques to ensure potholes and sections of roads are fixed properly - the first time.
  • Performing Arts and Convention Centre – We believe our community needs this amenity in the very near future and it will greatly enhance the livability of our city. However we absolutely need to get our finances, crimesocial issues under control first.  Proseperity and big projects will soon follow.
