Meet Reid
Reid Hamer-Jackson has called Kamloops home since 1973. He's a father, a grandpa, a husband, an uncle, a business owner, and a lifelong community member — an avid volunteer, a sponsor of local arts and recreation, and a member of the Performing Arts Centre Society. He spent decades building TRU Market Truck and Auto Sales into a fixture in this town, and when Kamloops elected him mayor, he set it aside to serve the community full-time.
Reid had never been involved in politics. What put his name on the ballot in 2022 was a City Hall that wasn't being held to account and a decline in community safety that he — like a lot of Kamloopsians — watched get worse every year while being told it was fine. In October 2022, Kamloops elected him mayor.
Reid has spent his whole life on teams — in business, in volunteering, in this community. He came to the council table ready to work with anyone willing to work on the same things. But Kamloops elected an outsider, and a mayor is one vote out of nine. The initiatives Reid brought forward — the ones he was elected to bring — did not carry. That's the record, and it's a matter of public minutes.
He's never stopped believing these goals are achievable. They're achievable with a council pulling in the same direction. Reid isn't asking for four more years of one voice against eight. He's asking Kamloops for a team that wants the job done.
Everything starts with transparency and accountability. Without them, safety and prosperity are things you get promised, not things you get. Over the last four years the doors of City Hall have swung shut on the people who own the building — and Reid wants them open again. That's the first job. The rest follows.
The goals haven't moved: transparency and accountability, community safety, attainable housing, and sustainable infrastructure — the pillars that let Kamloops become a more prosperous city for everyone. He didn't come to City Hall for a career. He intends to make a strong and determined push for a safer, more prosperous, more sustainable community. A community we can all be proud of again.
